Flagship research project
Promoting the standardization of a technology that could be built in series, for installation in ocean sites of different nature, using concrete as construction material
ISOBARA’s objective is to study the hydrodynamic behavior of a concrete structure designed for floating offshore wind energy extraction, and to investigate new concretes to reduce costs.

Challenge
Contribute to the evolution of the design of a floating wind platform that, under the same industrializable technological concept, allows competing in a globalized market, which is governed by different meteo-oceanic conditions.
Solution
To develop specific numerical models for the analysis of sea behavior; which, in collaboration with very ambitious test campaigns, allow to release a very advanced numerical model, able to represent the fluid-structure interaction, exceeding the state of the art and the capabilities of commercial models.
Results
IHCantabria has carried out a very innovative test campaign, which has allowed monitoring more variables than in previous occasions. A new type of sensor system has also been developed and the integration of the laboratory turbine has been improved. Thus, there have been many substantial improvements in experimental techniques. The development of the numerical model is expected to be completed in 2025.
