2024 ANNUAL REPORT
Flagship education project
Lifelong learning requires inclusive, flexible and modular educational systems
The first IHCantabria Education and capacity Building Plan (2021-25) has culminated with the approval and implementation of the first University Micro-credentials, University Degrees offered by Universidad de Cantabria that will form part of the modular offer of the Institute’s educational program.
Challenge
A current challenge for Universidad de Cantabria is to implement the “Recommendation for a European approach to micro-credentials for lifelong learning and employability” (Council of Europe, 2022). This normative regulation represents a challenge and an opportunity for knowledge transfer. To comply with it, research institutes must contribute to the continuous, specialized, flexible and modular learning of their staff and graduates.
Solution
Several public and private initiatives support the European strategy. The Ministry of Universities formulated the MicroCreds Plan to promote microcredentials in public universities. The first edition of the “Santander-Microcredential Scholarships 2025” program promotes lifelong learning, improving the employability of university students. In this context, the ECCE-IH Program is postulated as a suitable educational environmen to develop both initiatives, through continuing education proposals associated with Universidad de Cantabria’s own degrees.
Results
In 2024, the University has approved two university micro-credentials from the ECCE-IH program, developed in ERASMUS+ and LIFE projects. The TRASMARES program, taught in collaboration with the European consortium of universities EUNICE, has trained more than 1,300 students from different countries, of which more than 1,000 have obtained the corresponding diploma. The ADAPTA BLUES Program, which is being offered in 2025, has received support from the Santander Program, which will pay for the education of 50 students between the ages of 25 and 64.
